Educational Approach
Our Educational Approach
At Wild Wander Forest School, we stay true to an authentic Forest School model. We believe children are naturally curious, capable, and eager to learn when given the freedom to follow their interests. Our program blends a child-led, project-based approach with evidence-based instruction—including Orton-Gillingham and Heggerty methods for literacy and foundational math strategies—to meet each learner where they are.
Rooted in the Forest School model and a deep respect for place-based education, our immersive outdoor classrooms invite children to explore, create, and grow in meaningful connection with themselves, their community, and the natural world.

Child-Led, Nature-Rich Learning
We see each child as an active, capable participant in their own learning. Educators act as thoughtful guides, creating space for curiosity to unfold and helping children build knowledge through inquiry, reflection, and play. Our days are shaped by the interests of the children, the rhythm of the seasons, and the ever-changing outdoor environment.

Observation, Reflection & Growth
We document learning through photos, storytelling, and student work, making thinking visible and honoring the many ways children express themselves. This reflective practice allows educators to support each child’s growth in developmentally appropriate ways, while keeping families meaningfully involved in the journey.

The Environment
as a Teacher
Our nature classrooms are intentionally selected—coastal preserves, oak woodlands, riparian trails—each one rich with opportunities to explore, question, and discover. These natural spaces serve as co-teachers, offering endless materials and invitations for learning. Children learn to observe closely, move with care, and build lasting respect for the land they walk on.

Risky Play
& Resilience
We embrace the role of healthy risk in child development. Climbing, balancing, navigating uneven terrain—all support confidence, physical literacy, and emotional growth. Our educators scaffold these experiences with care, encouraging children to trust their bodies, assess challenges, and learn from both success and struggle.
At Wild Wander Forest School, we don’t just prepare children for what comes next. We empower them to be present, engaged, and connected learners right now—in the forest, in their communities, and in themselves.
Families that attend Wild Wander Forest School are seeking
more than just early education -
They value adventurous, confidence-building play and a learning environment that nurtures emotional safety and curiosity. They want their children to be empowered with body autonomy and a deep sense of trust in themselves and others. These families prioritize resilience built through real-world challenges and are drawn to a slower, more intentional rhythm that encourages presence and meaningful disconnection from the noise of modern life. At Wild Wander, they find a place where learning, growth, and wonder unfold naturally—just as childhood should.
