Our Cardiff & Encinitas Eco Classroom
Our coastal wetland classrooms are located within one of Southern California’s most biodiverse natural habitats. This protected setting—home to native plants, tidal estuaries, and seasonal migratory birds—provides students with direct, real-world examples of ecological principles and interdependence, with all curriculum aligned to California State Standards.
Here, learning is rooted in observation and inquiry. Students study the interactions between saltwater and freshwater systems, document seasonal changes, and practice science skills such as data collection and classification in a living laboratory. Literacy is woven throughout the day with nature journaling, storytelling, and vocabulary building inspired by their discoveries among native willows and marsh grasses.
Through structured lessons and open-ended exploration, children strengthen foundational knowledge in science, language, and math while developing critical thinking and environmental literacy. Educators guide students to connect facts to field experience, fostering both academic confidence and ecological awareness.
As with all Wild Wander classrooms, our site is selected to support rigorous learning in a safe, inspiring outdoor setting. Students leave not only with strong academic skills but with a lasting sense of responsibility for the natural systems they study and help protect.
