Our Carlsbad Eco Classroom
Our Carlsbad classroom is designed to provide children with a deeply engaging, outdoor academic experience. This unique natural setting offers rich opportunities for applying core subjects through hands-on, place-based learning, with all curriculum aligned to California State Standards.
Students use the features of the landscape as living extensions of their curriculum. They practice observation and data collection while exploring native habitats, reinforce numeracy through measurement and patterning found in plants and rocks, and build strong literacy foundations using evidence-based methods such as Orton-Gillingham and Heggerty, integrated seamlessly into nature-based activities.
Daily routines incorporate structured lessons alongside open-ended exploration, fostering critical thinking, language development, and social-emotional skills. Guided by skilled educators, children develop resilience, self-regulation, and collaboration as they navigate trails, study local wildlife, and participate in group discussions outdoors.
As with all Wild Wander locations, our Carlsbad site is selected with care to support both safety and sustainability. Here, students grow academically and personally, building confidence and a deep sense of connection to their learning environment—skills they carry with them beyond the trails.
